Enterprise Architect requires a Registry entry in order to find (EA)2. The installation process does that for the user installing the product. However, at some sites the installation is done by an administrator, not the normal user. Under these circumstances, the registry is set up for the admin account but not the normal user's account..
The following steps provide a work around until we get the installation process fixed. The instructions are for Windows XP and may require slight adjustment for Vista and Windows 7.
- Login as your normal user with which you will be doing your modeling.
- Make sure Enterprise Architect is closed.
- Click on the Start button and then click Run.
- Enter regedit and click OK. This brings up the registry editor.
- Back up your registry by selecting File / Export... and then selecting a convenient location to save it. Should anything go wrong, you can restore your registry from this saved file by selecting File / Import...
- Open the HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Sparx Systems key by clicking on the + signs (see the image below). Keys are represented by a folder icon.
- Open the EAAddins key if it is there.
- If it is not already there, create the key by right clicking on Sparx Systems, selecting New Key, and naming it EAAddins
- Right click on the EAAddins key, select New Key and name it EA2
- Click on the EA2 key to highlight it.
- Right click on (Default) in the right frame and select Modify.
- Enter OAD.EA2 for the value data.
- The Registry Editor should look something like the image below. In some cases, the Type and Data may not appear on this screen. This is okay as long as they are there when you right click on the EA2 key and select Modify.
- Close the Registry Editor.
- A number of files will have been placed in the Administrator's [My Documents]/OAD Consulting/EA2 folder. You should copy or move them to the same folder under your normal login account. [My Documents] references the folder where your documents are placed.
- You should be presented with the (EA)2 notification screen. See Installing and Uninstalling (EA)2 for more information..
