About (EA)2

(EA)2 is a design tool that makes modeling Enterprise Architecture (EA) as complete, consist, and easy a process as possible. It is built on two industry standards, UML and SQL, making it very accessible. It is a combination of ...

• an add-in for Sparx Systems' Enterprise Architect (Sparx EA), and
• a set of SQL components designed for Microsoft SQL Server.

The Add-in uses UML extensions as implemented in Sparx EA to provide tools for modeling the different architectural views and for linking them together while realizing the business processes. It also provides extensive roadmap capabilities to represent your architecture at specific points in time.

The add-in for Enterprise Architect has...

• Diagram types with their toolbox elements that are germane to each architectural view, i.e. Business, Application (S/W), Data, and Infrastructure,
• Tagged values on the toolbox elements to capture information specific to each type of model element (in some cases you can extend the tagged values to include additional information).
• Quicklinks to ensure that your model elements are connected properly, thus helping to enforce architectural principles by making them the easiest way to model,
• Various, modifiable XML import files that create complex package structures to support modeling key components of the architecture,
• A modifiable base model with a package structure for jump-starting modeling efforts,
• An HTML user’s guide that describes each of the elements and modeling techniques and explains the concepts behind (EA)2's modeling approach, including discussions on the horizontal slices (architectural views), vertical slices (elements needed to realize the business processes) and Roadmaps that show the state of the architecture at given points in time. The user guide includes numerous examples from the reference model used in OAD training courses.

A reporting component composed of over 100 SQL views, user-defined functions, and stored procedures for SQL Server 2005 or 2008 that provide ...

• Base views for each of the toolbox elements and quicklink connectors that make it easy to extract information from your model,
• Composite views that combine the base views to show the rich structure of relationships among the toolbox elements, like all software deployed on a server,
• Analytical views that show things like application dependencies, all architectural assets needed to realize a business process during a given Roadmap Phase, and a 5 year view of what assets will be approved for use during each year.
• You can use the provided SQL components to easily create your own extensions.
